The Welsh Government is rightly proud of our record of working to ensure all children in Wales have the best start in life and of promoting children’s rights. This is why as a Government we intend to bring forward legislation to remove the defence of reasonable punishment. We want to make it clear that physically punishing a child is no longer acceptable in Wales.
The consultation is being launched on 9 January 2018 and aims to seek views to inform the further development of the legislative proposal, as well as the wider package of measures to support the legislation.
