Early Years Grant Funding for 3-4 year olds
Children in Wales are eligible for part-time nursery education from the term after their third birthday until the end of the term of their fourth birthday.
In Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, arrangements are in place to ensure that every three and four-year-old child has access to a part-time early education placement in a school.
However, Early Years Grant funding to support your child in early education can also be accessed at 3 Registered Education Providers in Merthyr Tydfil.
The three registered education providers are:
Registration as an education provider requires childcare settings to undertake a joint inspection by both CIW and ESTYN. This inspection ensures that children receive a high standard of education and care. Inspection reports are available for these settings on the Estyn and CIW websites.
As a parent or carer, you have the flexibility to choose where you would like your child to attend, subject to availability. It is advisable to contact your preferred provider as early as possible, as they may have a waiting list for places.
- Part-time places are provided for up to five 2 ½ hour sessions per week, from the term after your child’s third birthday until the end of the term of their fourth birthday.
- You will be required to sign a Declaration of Admission form stating how many sessions you would like to claim at that setting, and to confirm that you are not claiming more than 5 x 2.5 hours sessions per week in total or in any other setting.
- Children must be resident in Merthyr Tydfil, and you will be required to produce your child’s birth certificate.
- Once funding has been agreed, the grant payments will be paid straight to the provider. However, you could be charged for any additional childcare or sessional costs at the setting.
