Early Years Grant Funding

Early Years Grant Funding

Children are entitled to a part time nursery education place from the term following their third birthday. Within Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, provision is made to allow every three and four year old child access to a part time early education place.

Early Years Grant funding to support your child in Early Education can be accessed at 3 registered Education providers in Merthyr Tydfil.

Three settings are registered as Early Years Education Providers in Merthyr Tydfil and are located in Cwm Golau Integrated Children’s Centre:-

To become a registered Education Provider, in addition to being registered and inspected by CIW, they are also inspected by ESTYN.  The ESTYN inspection ensures children are receiving quality education.  Copies of inspection reports can be viewed both on the CIW and ESTYN websites.

As a parent / carer you can decide where you would like your child to attend (subject to availability). You should contact the provider of your choice as soon as possible, in case they have a waiting list for places.

  • You will be required to sign a Declaration of Admission form stating how many sessions you would like to claim at that setting, and to confirm that you are not claiming more than 5 sessions per week in total or in any other setting.
  • Children must be resident in Merthyr Tydfil and you will be required to produce your child’s birth certificate.
  • Part-time places are provided for up to five 2 ½ hour sessions per week, from the term following a child’s third birthday until the term after their fourth birthday.
  • Once funding has been agreed, the grant payments will be paid straight to the provider. However, you will be charged for any additional childcare or sessional costs.
